Airport will become operational early in 1967; its design is based on forecast traffic for 1975-4 million passengers and 80,000 passenger aircraft movements annually, with growth potential; two existing runways and two more being built will form tangential layout round finger-pier terminal complex; construction problems involved; new development plan includes diversion of national highway and new rail link with Amsterdam and The Hague; new cargo terminal will accommodate control, storage and handling of all Schiphol's air freight irrespective of carrier; nine-story administrative block, built integrally with 18,400 m2 freight area, provides space for customs, cargo airlines and associated services.
