Advancements accomplished towards driver and passenger protection during accident include establishment of specifications for field of vision and several design aids, and specifications for safety door latches and hinges for automotive vehicles; basic requirements for static tests in longitudinal and transverse directions, carried out on automotive door latch and striker assembly, are outlined and procedure for performing each test is described; equipment required is also discussed; future research is directed toward safety belt refinements, various retractors, shoulder harnesses, safetly belts, head rests, etc.
