Friction process in brakes characterized by high temperature gradient fast changing with time is described; conditions which must be satisfied in model investigation are discussed; model investigation for determining brake friction and wear characteristics as well as stability and braking efficiency were carried out at normal braking cycle of heavy frequency rapid braking, and at condition of train moving on slope with constant slow braking.
