Redesign of ultrasonic systems used at Sperry Rail Service's fleet of detector cars; ultrasonic channels in redesigned wheel search units are featured; induction system will reset itself at bolt hole without giving alarm, short distance after last echo is received from hole; however, if crack is present, signals from it will continue to register until preset alarm count is reached; if alarm system is set to detect cracks 1 in. or more long, two alarms would be received from 2 in. crack.
