Structural details of 4-engined transport, designed originally for commercial operations; 75% of exterior fuselage surface and 10% of wing are spot welded; special supercharger designed by Lockheed for airplane's pressurized cabin; use of triple tail keeps overall height at minimum; landing gear is fully retractable tricycle type having steerable nose wheel; power supplied by 4 Wright Cyclone 18 engines which are twin radials in 2000-hp series.
