In contrast with methods used at Lakehurst docks, timber arches of 237-ft span at West Coast naval air station were erected from huge timber scaffold carried on 18 flatcars arranged on 6 parallel railroad tracks; progress was 50 ft per working day; tracks were used to take scaffold to second location.
