Fleet of 50 various special types of husky wood and Diesel vessels being built in shipyards in Tacoma Harbor for Army's rapidly expanding fleet; known as FP type, vessels are 114 ft × 27 ft × 13 ft 4 in.; FP type is basically rugged, broad, seaworthy hull; propelled by two 11 1/2 by 15-in. Atlas heavy duty Diesel engines each developing 320 hp at 300 rpm; vessels are for operation in either torrid Tropics or frigid North.
