Review of American Standard for Railroad Highway Grade Crossing Protection (D8.1-1943) which provides additional safety for such crossings by recommending automatically operated gates wherever railroad and highway traffic is heavy enough to warrant them; gates are designed to be lowered at predetermined interval after signal begins to operate.
