With less freight cars, fewer passenger cars and 0.6% reduction in locomotive tractive power owned, this road, through program of improvements and production of 111% more freight gross ton-miles per unit of tractive effort in 1942 than in 1939, is rendering valuable service to country in supplying additional freight and passenger traffic capacity on transcontinental routes.
