Note on wooden vessel, called Turtle, built by David Bushnell; ventilating pipes closed automatically as boat submerged, air in boat being sufficient to sustain one man 30 min; submergence, surfacing, propulsion, steering, etc, controlled by hand and foot power; attack against man-of-war Eagle was abortive because screw designed for attaching mine could not penetrate copper sheathing on hull of Eagle.
