Automatic freight classification yard opened by Louisville and Nashville Railroad at Boyles, Ala, classifies cars by electronic sensing devices that automatically weigh car, check wind and rolling resistance, measure length of track where car is headed, and keep count of cars already there; this information is fed into computer, and signal is automatically relayed to group retarder to control car; communications and signaling facilities also described.
