Measure for obtaining optimum performance from ship propulsion gear; proposed method of analysis and alignment of line shafting to propulsion gear; maximum difference between static fore and aft gear bearing loadings is recommended and illustrated by actual line shaft arrangements; alignment of steam turbines to avoid high speed flexible coupling and turbine vibration difficulties is also described.
