Trend in main propulsion machinery in United States; attention is mainly given merchant ships, with reference to machinery for naval vessels where service provides valuable experience or indicates direction of advance; it is suggested trends in ship design indicate that steam condition above present level of 600 psig and 850 F will come into use, particularly for greater powers required by larger or faster ships.
