Hydraulic model investigations for Barkley Dam were concerned with orientation of lock, spillway, and powerhouse structures; determination of feasibility of discharging lock culverts into spillway stilling basin; development of optimum designs for laterally sloping stilling basin, training walls and lock culvert discharge manifolds; and verification of hydraulic loads on lock emergency gate; 1 to 120-scale comprehensive model, 1 to 36-scale section model, and 1 to 25-scale model of lock emergency gate were used in study.
