One of most important inherent design calculations is that for exhaust lead, defined as being number of crankshaft degrees of engine revolution from opening of exhaust valves or ports to opening of inlet valves or ports; outflow of products of combustion from 2-stroke cycle diesel engine cylinder is examined and numerical analysis used hitherto supplanted by direct integration method; it is found that equations of outflow result in nonlinear differential equation capable of direct solution, thereby giving rapid computation of exhaust lead.
