It is shown that in case of a-c traction, same formulas can be used for calculating rms current of substation, that are used in case of nonregenerative braking; in case of d-c traction these formulas can be used only when motor-generator sets or rectifier-inverter systems are used in substations, and even then some corrections are necessary in calculations concerning step-down transformers.
