Passenger and vehicle ferry was built for Red Funnel fleet of Southampton, Isle of Wight and South of England Royal Mail Steam Packet Co Ltd by John I. Thornycroft and Co Ltd; 45 vehicles can be carried on main deck, with unrestricted height at fore end for trucks; length oa (including ramp and fender) 191 ft 2 in., breadth molded 40 ft, depth molded to main deck 10 ft 7 in., draft amidships 7 ft, gross 730 tons, service speed 14 knots; two 8-cyl Crossley engines each have continuous rating of 900 bhp at 450 rpm.
