Intermediate range, (transition region), is of interest in production of rarefied gas streams, study of problems created by flight at extreme altitudes, and design of electric rocket thrusters; experiments were conducted to determine mass flow rate and longitudinal pressure distribution along tube for conditions ranging from free molecule to continuum; as conditions departed from continuum toward free molecule, effect of oa pressure ratio became quite pronounced until at free molecule conditions effect was that predicted by P.Clausing; transition could be seen in pressure distribution and mass flow; nitrogen at 300 K was test gas.
