Discussion of car-following models and theories; latter are attempt to understand behavior of closely following vehicles by relating motion of one vehicle to that of vehicle directly ahead; experiments in various countries are noted, including those for control of tunnels and freeways to prevent shock waves for which results pertain to Holland Tunnel in New York and Eisenhower Expressway in Chicago.
