Stacking ability of fork lift truck provides new dimension to storage and, as result, doubled, tripled, and quadrupled storage capacity of many warehouses; other industrial trucks include mobile cranes, straddle carriers, platform trucks, pallet trucks, and towing tractors; biggest handling problem facing industry today is mechanical loading and unloading of box cars; probably 90% of cased goods, primarily canned food and similar items, are manually unloaded off pallets and placed in rail cars; it takes about eight man-hours to manually load boxcar, whereas lift truck can do same job in 45 min; power steering has contributed more than anything else to ease of operation.
