Tandem locomotives of 700 hp made up from pairs of shunters with single cabs and multiple control; locomotives each comprise master and slave units with driver accommodated in former; locomotive converted to form slave unit was modified structurally by removal of cab to enable driver in master unit to obtain visibility round slave unit engine compartment; control equipment was adapted for multiple-unit operation from master unit and slave is permanently coupled to it for tandem operation; maximum tractive effort of locomotive is 70,000 lb, equal to 26% adhesion, and continuous tractive effort 32,000 lb at 3.75 mph; unit is braked to equal 54% of weight in service order and maximum speed is 20 mph.
