For hauling heavy express trains on certain sections of French railroad network, SNCF, have introduced diesel-electric locomotives of 68,000 class; they weigh 106 tons and are equipped with single diesel engine with maximum rating of 3000 hp; electric power transmission was developed in France; these locomotives have been tested in service since 1963; by means of special system it is possible to reduce load on driving axles from 20 to 18 tonnes for service on branch lines.
