Experiments conducted in supersonic wind tunnels during past 3 yr on missiles and projectiles show that pressure at base of bodies is essentially function of parameters that govern boundary layer; hence, base pressure is closely connected to surface friction and heat transfer phenomena; experimental results obtained in Naval Ordnance Laboratory supersonic tunnels at Mach 1.5-5.0 compared with theoretical results.
