By mid 1953 all important lines, totaling 850 route miles, will be electrically operated; substations and track sectioning cabins remotely controlled from nearest signalbox; operating instructions given by telephone from four central control rooms; there are normally one or two rectifiers of 1200 kw 1800 amp continuous rating with overload capacity up to 4000 amp in each substation.
