It is pointed out that greatly increased industrialization and growing competition from other forms of transport are having profound effect upon railway operations and standards of equipment; present problem is how to produce better transportation at lower costs; movement of traffic on line and handling of traffic through terminals; use of steam and Diesel electric locomotives.
