Features and operating characteristics of electric propulsion schemes, and their application to various types of ship; application of geared Diesel engines with electromagnetic couplings and use of a-c synchronous motors with Diesels or steam turbines; it is claimed that slightly higher initial cost of electric drive is offset by greater flexibility in control and lower fuel consumption.
