Scheme, included in North of Scotland Hydro-Electric Board's program to relieve shortage of generating plant in mid Scotland, is based on peak load operation with water collected directly and by diversion to Loch Sloy from total catchment area of 32 sq mi; station and works designed for capacity of 130,000 kw; station overtakes peaks of load during winter load season and relieves station capacity.
