There have been occasions when targets in vicinity of ship carrying P.P.I. type radar gear, have remained undetected by radar operator when heavy rain has been falling; such failure of radar system is explained and analyzed; set of curves prepared to assist operator to determine ranges within which target echoes ought to be visible.
