Comparison made between two secondary lines and Bussoleno-Modane section of Italian State Railways shows greatest loss suffered by mountain railway sections where operating losses increase with increasing traffic; economic recovery sought by reduction of costs, construction of new sections of line which correct old and expensive layouts, etc. (English, French, German abstracts).
