Washington, DC, facilities receive refuse from collection trucks and transfer it to railroad gondolas or 30 yd truck trailers for delivery to disposal points; transfer station, 270 by 140 ft accommodates gondola railroad cars on one side and trailers on other; fans provide seven changes of air per hr at 85,300 cfm; two fans providing 26,800 cfm serve for dust collection and one fan of 58,500 cfm capacity is used for odor control.
