Power demands of aircraft have become so great as to justify use of independent generator sets in place of auxiliary generators driven by main engines; generating set of this type developed by Rotol, Ltd, is illustrated and described; engine is arranged as "flat-six" with three cylinders on either side of crankcase; cylinder bore is 3.375 in. with stroke of 3 in.; governed speed is 3750 rpm, giving 60 bhp at altitude of 12,000 ft.
