During war period, Ministry of Transport has assessed carrying capacity of existing bridges for emergency traffic, with view to modifying classification of certain individual bridges; paper summarizes whole of these tests on cast iron girder bridges and includes some of conclusions which have been reached regarding calculation of dead and live load stresses in bridges of this type.
