Highway shortened by reconstruction of 91 miles of abandoned railway as paved highway; ties and rails of old bridges were replaced with concrete deck overhanging 6 to 7 ft each side and providing 22 ft clear roadway; four new bridges, including one bascule, were built; between bridges 8-in. two course bituminous surface treated pavement 22 ft wide was put down.
