Features of device, based upon injection of compressed air into cargo tank compartments; if tanker is torpedoed or mined, compressor at either end of ship is brought into operation, and air is forced into damaged compartment at pressure desired; inrush of water into ship is checked, and then forced out; pressure can be maintained until ship reaches port; another main use of device is to provide means of pumping sea water for fire fighting when steam power in engine room has been put out of action.
