To determine what advantages may be derived through use of rails longer than present standard, Central Railroad of New Jersey has installed test track with 39-ft rails welded in pairs; article describes test section in detail, including several variations in construction, joint spacing, etc, that were employed to determine their relative effectiveness for use with long rails.
