Two types of take off units developed, fixed and droppable; attack planes equipped with fixed type, with nozzle emitting gaseous flames from rear of engine nacelle; heavier planes, equipped with jettison rockets attached to under side of wings; this type could be dropped by parachute and salvaged for re-use; rockets are designed to operate until plane is airborne and landing gear has been retracted.
