Method of design described which embodies principle of stiffener elimination; design consists of cranked plates with welded butts; problem of design resolves itself into design of bulkhead equivalent to that which experience has found necesary as typified by Classification Societies scantlings; since direct welding to deck and botom is considered sufficient, notes on end connections of stiffeners are given.
