Work being conducted by Bureau of Ships, U S Navy in interest of obtaining lighter, more compact and more efficient ship propulsion gears without sacrificing reliability; observations and results of typical full scale gear tests presented; purpose of tests was to evaluate various design features, materials and manufacturing processes as they relate to load carrying capacities of gears.
