Net income was increased on nearly all properties from which reports were received, and combined surplus was five times that for 1928; traffic held up well, and with some increases in fares gross revenues were greater; higher schedule speeds, reduction of wastes and judicious extension of bus service all contributed to improved showing; combined operating reports of 202 electric railways for calendar year 1929 compared with 1928.
