Seeking cheaper operation of motor cars, Union Pacific in 1914, collaborating with local manufacturer, started development of suitable carburetors to use low-grade fuel on their 200-and 300-hp. McKeen cars; in case of gasoline-electric cars with high-speed engines, economies were at first partially offset by increased cost of lubrication, but recent improvements have resulted in performance comparable with McKeen cars; distillate carburetors in use are of fixed ratio type; effect of dilution on lubrication.
