Effective solution of grade-crossing problem has become challenge to engineer and economists; there are 236,283 railroad crossings in United States in spite of vast annual expenditures for elimination; grade crossings increase at faster rate than they are being eliminated; need for practical, feasible and coordinated working plan of national and state-wide proportions is pointed out.
