Problems which affect railways in general, and Great Western in particular, are discussed in regard to: obtaining steady increasing quantity of traffic, carrying traffic speedily from acceptance to delivery without discomfort or damage, effecting this with economy in operation, and obtaining results with minimum expenditure on construction and maintenance; experiments with composite steel ties; equipment which has reduced maintenance costs reviewed.
