May 3: General description of new line, 58 km. long, joining Midi Railway stationat Bedous with Jaca of Spanish Norte Railway; maximum gradient 1 in 23.2 with minimum curves of 200 m.; details of track and tunnel construction, including helicoidal tunnel 1972 yd. long with rise of 167 ft. or 1 in 29.4. May 24: Entrance of international Somport tunnel, which lies at summit of railway. June 7: Triangulation for tunnel; methods and equipment employed in driving tunnel on French and Spanish sides; nature of soil. June 21: Passenger station is made up of covered island platform 1214 ft. long, station buildings running down center; yard is laid out for 26 tracks; auxiliary freight shed is provided on both gages for local loading and unloading; electrification of line on French side from Bedous station, through tunnel to Canfranc station yard is carried out with direct current at 1500 volts; substation at Urdos has to deal with traffic on heavy gradients; details of electric locomotives.
