Yard lighting with 200 to 1000 watt lamps on posts 7 to 12 m. high is unsatisfactory and gives rise to accidents, on account of nature of freight classification work; system of floodlighting from 25-m. steel towers, as installed in Leon yards by Ferrocarriles del Norte, is described; adopted in many places in United States, Norfolk and Western railroad being cited as example.
