Afloat powdered-coal installations must aim at obtaining greatest mileage from given expenditure on coal, and this means use of coal of reasonably high calorific value; auxiliary machinery required is of no more complicated character than that already necessarily in use for other purposes, and is no more liable to breakdown; essentials for successful installation on board ship; table presented of ships fitted with powdered-coal equipment.
