Third turbine-electric liner, built in record time is greatest merchant ship constructed in America; built by Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Co.; she is driven, heated, ventilated, and has all auxiliary machinery operated by electric current; 613 ft. 1 1/2 in. in length o.a.; 20,800 tons gross register; propelled by twin screws, each propeller driven directly by 8500-hp. motor at 110 r.p.m.; electricity is generated by two steam turbines directly connected to current rated at 5250 kw. at 2640 r.p.m.
