Analysis was conducted to evaluate vehicle requirements for manned exploration of Mars during 1975 to 1985 time period; availability of desirable interplanetary transfers is complicated by energy requirements associated with late 1970 departures and high solar activity experienced during early 1980's; promising missions are available with long duration class transfers (800 to 1000 days) during period investigated but restricted to 1980's if short duration (360 to 600 days) missions are desired; of various Mars operational profiles investigated, simplest method using circular capture orbit is recommended.
