Report contains description of measurement of molecular oxygen in upper atmosphere by absorption spectroscopy using solar Lyman-α radiation; experimental arrangement used in payloads of Nike Apache rockets and method of analysis are detailed; data from rocket flights at Wallops Island, Virginia, and Fort Churchill, Manitoba, for altitude range 70 to 112 km are presented; conclusions are drawn from this and other data obtained by absorption spectroscopy.
