Functions of aircraft in providing communications coverage in support of Apollo mission, reasons for using aircraft to supplement land and ship station coverage and factors determining number of aircraft required are discussed; sample operational aircraft deployment plan for lunar mission is presented; functional description of onboard instrumentation by major subsystems and operator positions is given; technical problem areas including antenna-size limitations, multipath interference and RF interference and proposed solutions to these problems are treated.
