With limited help from Earth, Mariner 4 overcame various obstacles and difficulties and completed near-perfect mission; attitude-control system conditioned solar-power conversion, temperature control, radio communications, and pointing of scientific instruments; description of three-axis control concept including reference system, sun sensors, star tracker, mass-expulsion system, switching amplifier, solar vanes, and system operation; results of flight performance are discussed.
